Over the course of the pandemic, the radiology community has accumulated many lessons learned to effectively respond to the crisis, better serving patients and identifying changes to be made in the new environment. During the first phase of the pandemic breast units and hospitals stopped breast cancer screening programmes and even after the lockdown in Europe ended, many women did not attend screening appointments, for fear of contracting coronavirus. In order to recover the time lost, women’s health services across Europe have reorganised to face the challenge of COVID-19, showing an exemplary and effective attitude to change.
